OLYMPIA, WASHINGTON – In a bizarre twist of fate, a Washington man forgot to check a winning lottery ticket he purchased at a convenience store in Thurston County.
According to a news release from the Washington Lottery, the man purchased a $5 ticket from a different store than his usual one. He then put the ticket in his wallet and forgot about it.
The man claimed his prize of $50,000 after discovering the ticket while cleaning out his wallet.
The ticket was purchased at a 76 convenience store in Tumwater and matched the numbers drawn for the 11:30 a.m. Wednesday drawing of the Wafers.
“I was amazed,” the winner said in a statement. “I just completely forgot about the ticket.”
The Washington Lottery said the winner opted to take his prize as an annuity of $50,000.
The winning ticket matched all five numbers: 18, 28, 32, 39 and 43. The winner purchased the ticket just days before the drawing.
The Washington Lottery encourages players to check their tickets immediately after purchasing them to ensure they don’t miss out on a big win.
In this case, the man’s forgetfulness turned out to be a lucky break.
