In a chilly display of determination and camaraderie, 2,461 individuals took to the icy waters of the Czech Republic’s Lake Máchovo on a brisk Sunday morning to set a new Guinness World Record for the largest simultaneous cold water swim.
The event, organized by the Ice King association, drew participants from across the globe, all united in their quest to break the previous record. Dressed in an array of colorful swimsuits and winter gear, the crowd of swimmers plunged into the lake’s 41°F (5°C) waters at 9:00 AM local time, with many sporting festive hats and inflatable rafts.
The previous record, set in 2018 in Russia, stood at 1,136 participants. The Czech Republic’s Lake Máchovo, known for its crystal-clear waters and scenic surroundings, provided the perfect setting for this unusual and impressive feat.
“I’ve been training for months, and I’m thrilled to be a part of this incredible experience,” said Petra Jeníková, a 32-year-old participant from Prague. “The atmosphere is electric, and I’m honored to be surrounded by so many like-minded individuals.”
The event’s organizers took extensive safety precautions, deploying a team of lifeguards and medical staff to ensure the well-being of all participants. Swimmers were required to swim for at least 25 meters before being helped out of the water.
The Guinness World Records adjudicator, present at the event, verified the record and announced the achievement to the crowd.
