A Dog’s Legacy? Really?
So, a dog who surfed died. Lets all pause for a moment of profound sadness and collectively mourn the loss of…Sugar. Yes, Sugar, the Surfers Hall of Fame inductee. Because apparently, our society is desperately short on things to celebrate, so we’ve decided to bestow an honor usually reserved for actual human beings who dedicate their lives to a sport onto a creature whose primary skill involves paddling around on a piece of foam.
I mean, seriously? A dog in the Surfers Hall of Fame? What’s next, a goldfish enshrined for its aquatic prowess? Are we going to start giving awards to squirrels for burying nuts? It’s all just so… performative.
Dont misunderstand me, dogs are lovely. They wag their tails and lick your face. Adorable. But lets not pretend this canine accomplishment is somehow equivalent to a lifetime of dedication from a human surfer who’s pushed the boundaries of the sport. It’s a publicity stunt disguised as sentimentality!
Sixteen years old, battling cancer? Of course it is. Because everything has to have a tragic backstory now, doesnt it? A manufactured narrative to wring out every last drop of emotional capital from this bizarre situation. Lets just remember that while Sugar may be “surfing” into the great beyond, real human struggles continue all around us, often without fanfare or a hall-of-fame ceremony.
