You know what’s Not on Roids, apparently? Data centers. Seriously. Who knew these massive digital warehouses powering your TikTok addiction were becoming the new villain in small-town America? Turns out, a whole lot of people are not thrilled about them, and theyve got a legit reason to be cranky.

It’s not just that these things guzzle water (like, a LOT of it) and potentially jack up your electricity bill. Its the sneaking around! Erin Brockovich – yes, that Erin Brockovich, Julia Roberts’ doppelganger from environmental justice fame – is now wading into this mess, saying communities feel like data centers are being “shoved down their throats in secrecy.” And she’s right to be outraged.

Apparently, developers and local leaders are signing NDAs, meaning residents find out about these projects at the last minute, if at all! You think a warehouse is going up? Nope, its a server farm powering AI algorithms! Microsoft, bless their suddenly transparent hearts, even used to rely on these confidentiality agreements. Good riddance!

Even Utah, home of “Shark Tank” investor Kevin O’Leary’s colossal data center project (which sparked statewide opposition!), is scrambling to create a framework to appease angry residents concerned about water and quality of life. Now they’re promising to protect resources and align development with Utah values. Its a little late, isn’t it? Honestly, who likes feeling like their concerns are being ignored while giant corporations quietly reshape their towns? Nobody, thats who!
