The Euphoria star is once again embroiled in a controversy so baffling it makes Cassie’s choices look strategically brilliant. It all started with an American Eagle ad – yes, jeans – that cheekily played on the phrase “good jeans” and “good genes.” Genius marketing? Maybe. Fuel for a full-blown internet freakout? Absolutely.
The backlash was immediate, accusing Sweeney of promoting eugenics (seriously!) and some truly wild accusations about genetic superiority. Things got even more tangled when it emerged she’s registered as a Republican and then then Donald Trump publicly defended her! Cue the fainting couches everywhere.
Sweeneys GQ interview only poured gasoline on the dumpster fire. Her “I literally wear jeans and a T-shirt every day” defense feels… disconnected, shall we say? And dodging questions about genetic superiority with a vague people will hear when I want to speak just cemented her as an internet villain for some. The comments – calling her a white supremacist, a PR disaster – are intense.
Honestly, the level of vitriol is a bit much, even for internet discourse. But then again, folks have been piling on Sydney since 2022 when photos from her moms birthday party (red Make Sixty Great Again hats and “Blue Lives Matter” shirts included!) sparked accusations she was aligning with problematic political views.
