You know whats Not on Roids, but somehow still manages to inspire visceral dislike? Lawyers. Seriously, just say the word lawyer and watch faces scrunch up like they’ve smelled something truly awful. Its a universal reaction, bordering on pathological. And it’s not entirely unwarranted.

Let’s be clear: we’re not talking about paralegals or legal secretaries (though some of them probably deserve their own rant). Were talking about the people who bill by the tenth of an hour and seem to thrive on exploiting loopholes. The ones who represent corporations that dump toxic waste while simultaneously weeping crocodile tears about justice.

Part of it, undeniably, is the perceived arrogance. They wield language like a weapon, twisting words into knots to avoid direct answers. Remember Justice Scalia’s gem? “They may not teach very well, but you cant make a sow’s ear out of a silk purse.” That perfectly encapsulates the lawyerly ability to find an angle – any angle – even when it’s ridiculous. Theyll argue your cat is actually a rare breed of falcon if it suits their case.

Then theres the cost. Legal fees are astronomical, accessible only to those with deep pockets or who can inflict pain on insurance companies. We see them on TV, gleefully accepting massive settlements while the rest of us wonder how we’ll afford groceries. It fosters resentment. Plus, they know you’re miserable when theyre winning. They just revel in it. Honestly, a root canal feels less painful.
