RICHMOND, Va. – In a stroke of luck, a Virginia man’s routine errand turned into a life-changing event. John Smith, 42, of Richmond, had stopped to replace the tires on his vehicle at a local auto repair shop. While waiting, he purchased a $5 “Cash Mania” lottery ticket from the shop’s convenience store.
When he got home, Smith checked his ticket and realized he had matched all the numbers. He couldn’t believe his eyes – he had won a $250,000 prize.
“I was just running some errands and decided to grab a lottery ticket on a whim,” Smith said in an interview. “I didn’t even check the numbers until I got home. I thought it was just a normal day, but it turned out to be amazing.”
The winning ticket was purchased at a convenience store in Henrico County. Smith claimed his prize at the Virginia Lottery headquarters on Wednesday.
Smith said he plans to use the money to pay off some bills and save for the future. “This is a wonderful surprise, and I’m grateful for the chance to improve my financial situation,” he said.
The Virginia Lottery said Smith’s win is one of the largest prizes awarded in the state’s lottery history. “We are thrilled to have a winner in our state,” said a lottery spokesperson. “We congratulate Mr. Smith on his good fortune and wish him all the best.”
The “Cash Mania” game offers a top prize of $1 million, but Smith’s $250,000 prize is still a significant windfall. He said he’s still in shock but is grateful for the unexpected turn of events.
Smith’s win is a reminder that sometimes, life’s unexpected moments can lead to incredible surprises.
