Love Boat crew members will have to wave goodbye to their diets after Princess Cruises broke the Guinness World Record for the largest pizza party at multiple venues. The record-breaking event took place on the Princes’ ships – each known for the romantic vibe they bring to their voyages.
This feat of culinary achievement saw Princess Cruises coordinating its entire fleet of Love Boats to deliver a whopping 34,000 slices of pizza to passengers across multiple ships at the same time. The quality of the pizza was not confirmed, but with a quantity like that, who cares? Records must be broken, no matter the cost, right?
According to the CEO of Princess Cruises, Jan Swartz, this massive event was a “fun culmination to a successful summer.” Who knew that slices of pizza could be used as a way to celebrate without wine and beer? The pizza party involved the Love Boat’s pizza mastermind working non-stop to prepare over 16,000 pies, with guests enjoying the feast while relaxing on deck chairs.
The Guinness World Record for the largest pizza party was previously held by a group of Norwegians who prepared 3,000 pizzas, which is a meager amount compared to the 16,000 pies Princess Cruises slung out to its passengers.
While the event may have been considered a triumph for the cruise ships, it’s safe to say that anyone concerned with healthy eating habits or suffering from gluten intolerance were left feeling a little bit left out. Princess Cruises’ Love Boat pizza party may have been a blessing for pizza and cheese lovers, but it was certainly an inconvenience for guests who aren’t fans of gooey, drippy, and cheesy slices.
Regardless of the variety of dietary restrictions onboard, passengers were thrilled with the record-breaking happening. Couples canoodle together while taking selfies with massive slices of pizza and posting it on Instagram, with captions like: “Our Love Boat pizza party became the Spice of Life for us” or “Love is in the air, and in my pizza!”
One passenger openly admitted to having eaten 12 pizza slices and was quoted saying, “I haven’t had pizza this good since I was a teenager.” Another guest even requested an additional pizza in his cabin for a midnight snack. Princess Cruises may have broken a food speed record, but it also broke several fitness records for guests, with calorie intakes skyrocketing to new heights.
While pizza may have not been the first choice of gourmet food for Princess Cruise’s passengers, it has set a new bar for the Love Boat. It’s safe to say that the next time you hop on one of their cruises, there’s a high probability you’ll be taking a culinary trip down memory lane with a slice of cheesy pizza in your hand, and that’s the price you pay for innovation.
