Florida Diver Mistakes Giant Swordfish for a Piece of Wood on Sea Floor!
In what can only be described as an astounding feat of observation, fossil-hunting diver Alex Lundberg has discovered a piece of wood on the sea floor off Florida’s Gulf Coast. But wait, it turns out that it wasn’t just any old piece of wood, oh no.
Lundberg’s keen eyes (or lack thereof) eventually saw the light when he realized that this wooden object was in fact a gargantuan swordfish! Now, one would have thought that an experienced diver, such as Lundberg, would know the difference between a piece of wood and a fish. But apparently not.
While it may seem like an honest mistake, Lundberg’s blunder has been met with quite the backlash from marine biologists, who can’t seem to wrap their heads around how someone could be so oblivious. One biologist even went so far as to say, “I mean, a piece of wood wouldn’t flop around like that even if it was being attacked by a school of jellyfish!”.
But not to be deterred by the criticism, Lundberg has tried to justify his slip-up, stating that the swordfish was exceptionally still and looked like it had been dead for a while. Of course, because we all know that dead fish magically transform into pieces of wood when they reach the ocean floor.
We reached out to Lundberg for comment, but he was reportedly too busy scouring the ocean floor for any more erroneous logs that might fishy fish that might be hiding in disguise.
Despite Lundberg’s embarrassing blunder, the discovery of the swordfish has proven to be a valuable one for marine biologists, who have now been able to study the creature up close and personal. Their findings have revealed that swordfish, in fact, do not have branches or bark and are, in fact, fish.
Who knows what other remarkable discoveries might be made by these fossil-hunting divers in Florida’s Gulf Coast? Perhaps next time they’ll come across a piece of seaweed and mistake it for a giant squid?
But jokes aside, this story just goes to show that even the most experienced divers can make mistakes and that we should always keep an open mind and examine the world around us a little closer. After all, who knows what hidden treasures we might discover once we start looking beyond the surface.
