Chicago suburb residents were socked into surprise on Wednesday, as a local museum broke a Guinness World Record with their vast collection of sock monkeys. The feat earned the museum a world record, and bragging rights for hosting a posse of over 2,000 stuffed primates.

Many locals gathered to admire the collection, with some offering comments of their own. “I never thought something as simple as a sock could be so..monetary,” gushed one sock monkey enthusiast. Another onlooker was overheard exclaiming, “I’ve never seen so many sock monkeys in my life! It’s like a nightmare!”

But the record-breaking feat wasn’t without its critics. One visitor complained that the display was, in actuality, a subtle ploy to weaken the artistic talent of local children. “My son hasn’t drawn a picture in weeks since he saw the sock monkey display,” she lamented. “Now all he wants to do is make terrible sock monkeys with floppy ears, and call it art!”

Despite the naysayers, the museum stands firm in their achievement. “It’s taken a lot of hard work and dedication to amass such a stunning collection of sock monkeys,” claimed the museum’s curator, Marge Simpson. “We’re thrilled to be recognized by Guinness, and even more thrilled that we can continue to inspire a new generation of sock monkey artists.”

The road to the world record wasn’t an easy one, however. Inside sources claim that museum staff worked tirelessly for weeks, scouring thrift stores and garage sales in search of the perfect sock. “We had to make sure that each and every sock met our exacting standards,” explained Simpson. “Only the best of the best for our monkey collection!”

The exhibit is set to be on display for the next month, and the museum has planned various activities to celebrate their achievement. Visitors can participate in sock monkey-making workshops, and even take part in a sock monkey costume contest. There’s no shortage of monkey business to be had at the museum, that’s for sure.

While some may scoff at the notion of a sock monkey exhibit, it’s clear that there’s a dedicated fanbase for these floppy-eared critters. And with a world record now under their belt, the museum is sure to see a new wave of foot enthusiasts flocking to their doors.

“I think it’s great,” exclaimed a local mom, as she snapped a photo with her daughter beside the collection. “Who knew that a simple sock could bring so much joy to people?”

Indeed, who knew? But one thing’s for certain – the museum’s sock monkey collection is sure to go down in history as one of the most impressive feats of sock manipulation ever pulled off. And for that, we can all take a moment to celebrate…with or without our socks on.
