Spain’s Taxi App Launches Revolutionary Service to Help Forgetful Passengers Find Their Lost Items
MADRID – In an effort to help out absent-minded riders, Spain’s leading taxi app has launched a new initiative to reunite passengers with their lost belongings. The service, touted as a world-first, is apparently designed to help riders who forget the most basic things – like their fencing mask and foil – in the back seat of a taxi.
Amusingly called the ‘Lost & Found,’ the service allows users to quickly report lost items through the app, from where they will be assigned a tracking code. The app will then automatically notify the driver of the taxi involved and inform the rider of its whereabouts.
“We know how it feels to forget something important, like a fencing foil, behind in a taxi,” said a spokesperson for the taxi company. “So we came up with a practical solution to help reunite riders with the objects they lose.”
The service has already helped many forgetful riders find their lost items, ranging from umbrellas and mobile phones to laptops and handbags. However, it was a fencing foil and mask that caught the first global attention, raising queries of what kind of fencing goes on in taxis in Spain.
Upon confirmation of the program, many taxi drivers worldwide are curious to learn about it too. “This is amazing,” said one excited driver, “I get to keep all sorts of things riders leave behind, from sweaty gym clothes to weird toys. Now, I imagine I’ll have to give them over to the rider. At least there’s a value score now to those items.”
The new service has been launched at a time when many taxi operators are feeling increased competition from ride-hailing services like Uber and Lyft. It has, however, been praised by industry insiders for being both practical and innovative.
“We all have moments when we are forgetful,” said one taxi industry expert. “It is such a valuable service, given that phones and tablets now hold so much information and are vital to our everyday lives. With the Lost & Found service, people have another way to retrieve them in a safe and reliable way.”
In addition to the Lost & Found service, the app has also launched a new feature called ‘Don’t Disturb’ which silences the notifications that users receive from the app at specific times. This is genius, because who needs to find their lost fencing mask in the middle of a date or business meeting.
“We strive to help our riders in ways beyond just getting them from point A to point B,” said the spokesperson, “We understand the importance of forgetting stuff at a time when fewer trips to stores are happening. We will continue to create innovative, positive features for our customers.”
Well, it seems like this new service will be appreciated by the forgetful. Although, who could forget their fencing foil and mask in the back of a taxi? But, hey, whatever works. Maybe, next the app will develop a service to reunite riders with their lost dignity and lost common sense.
