It isn’t every day that someone reaches such an impressive milestone, but an Oklahoma great-grandmother has just achieved the unthinkable: celebrating her 25th birthday.
Friends and family gathered around Gertrude Jenkins this weekend for a birthday bash that would make any baby-faced millennial green with envy. The 100-year-old great-grandmother of five was the life of the party, showing off her youthful energy and love of life.
“I can’t believe I’m only 25,” Gertrude joked to reporters as she blew out the candles on her cake. “It feels like just yesterday I was learning to walk and talk.”
Of course, Gertrude’s age is just a number – a number that seems to have gotten a little confused along the way. But who needs facts and accuracy when you’re busy partying like it’s 1999?
Despite her questionable math skills, Gertrude has always been a trailblazer. In her younger years, she was known for her daring fashion sense, often flaunting the latest trends long before they caught on with the rest of society.
“I remember when Gertrude walked into church wearing a mini-skirt back in the 60s,” said longtime friend Shirley Thompson. “People thought she was crazy, but she just didn’t care. And now look at us all – we’re wearing short shorts and crop tops like it’s no big deal.”
Gertrude’s youthful spirit has also inspired her to take on new challenges throughout her life. She’s traveled the world, skydived from 10,000 feet, and even went bungee jumping on her 90th birthday.
“Age is just a state of mind,” Gertrude told us before she headed off to her weekly kickboxing class. “As long as you keep pushing yourself to try new things and have fun, you’ll always feel young at heart.”
Despite her impressive achievements, Gertrude hasn’t forgotten the importance of family and friends. Her great-grandchildren love spending time with her, and Gertrude’s own children are proud of the strong woman she’s become.
“She’s always been the rock of our family,” said Gertrude’s son Billy. “She’s taught us to never give up on our dreams and to always keep pushing forward. And now here we are celebrating her 25th birthday – it just goes to show that anything is possible if you believe in yourself.”
So happy birthday, Gertrude. Here’s to another 25 years of defying the odds and living life to the fullest. Age may be nothing but a number, but you make it look damn good.
