Wildlife Experts Heroically Save Gopher Snake From Warm Winter Home Invasion
In a heartwarming display of compassion, wildlife experts in British Columbia have come to the rescue of a misplaced gopher snake. Rather than hunker down for a cozy winter’s nap, this bold serpent decided to break into a nearby resident’s home to escape the harsh Canadian winter.
Thankfully, the diligent and caring professionals at the Wildlife Center of British Columbia were able to safely capture the wayward snake and bring it to their facility for rehabilitation.
“It’s not uncommon for snakes to seek shelter from the cold, but we don’t typically see them trying to shack up in people’s homes,” chuckled wildlife specialist Lisa Townsend. “It must have been quite a shock for the homeowner to stumble upon this not-so-small houseguest.”
Indeed, it’s hard to imagine a more delightful surprise than discovering a slithery stranger curled up under your couch cushions. But thanks to the expertise of the wildlife center team, the homeowner was able to have his uninvited guest safely removed without incident.
“We’re just happy that we could be here to help both the snake and the homeowner,” stated Townsend. “It’s all in a day’s work for us.”
While most snakes would be content to curl up in a cozy hole or crevice for the winter, this daring gopher snake decided to take matters into its own nonexistent hands and make a break for it.
“I have to say, I’m impressed by the audacity of this little guy,” remarked Townsend. “To brazenly march into someone’s home like that takes real guts. Or, you know, a severe lack of awareness of one’s surroundings.”
Although it may sound like a heroic tale of survival in the face of adversity, experts caution that wild animals are best left in their natural habitats.
“We’re definitely seeing a rise in these types of situations where wild animals are encroaching on human spaces,” warned Townsend. “It’s important that we all respect the boundaries of the natural world and do our part to preserve it.”
