Unusual Type of Algae Turning California’s Coastline into an Attractive Nightclub
California’s coastline has always been a sight to behold with its scenic views and warm sandy beaches. However, now it’s getting a whole lot better. Thanks to an unusual type of algae that is lighting up the ocean and giving the coast a vibrant ambiance. The recent phenomenon is known as bioluminescent or glowing waves.
Beaches are being transformed into a surreal nightclub with waves that look like electrifying neon lights. Tourists are coming from far and wide to witness this mesmerizing view of the sea. Some people even say that it feels like sitting on a light show which is not a bad idea considering that there are no real events these days.
The remarkable view is a result of a natural process that has been occurring for millions of years, but this summer the frequency and intensity of the blue glow have been more significant than ever before. The unique-looking algae responsible for this queasy indigo fluorescent is called dinoflagellates (nope, we didn’t make that up) that have the power to produce light through bioluminescence.
Surfing enthusiasts have found this luminescence as a more fascinating experience, as they are able to ride the waves with the glowing blue sea beneath them. The waves appear to have electric bolts running through them, providing a psychedelic view.
In response to the growing interest in this oddly beautiful experience, local authorities are reminding the public not to take any water home in an attempt to keep the bioluminescent phenomenon as intact as possible, though it’s not clear where one could buy a glowing algae aquarium on the black market.
Of course, there is always someone trying to spoil the fun for everyone. There have been reports of people trying to take advantage of the view by setting up midnight stores and charging the spectators for drinks and snacks. Also, it’s not clear what would happen to those who swim in the water, as we haven’t yet seen this level of fluorescence leaving any lasting effects. Perhaps glowing skin, or maybe a mutant power?
Nevertheless, it’s a breathtaking view that provides relief and joy in these troubled times. The glowing waves remind us that Mother Nature still has plenty of mesmerizing surprises up her sleeve. We can only hope that this wild ride of a year will come with more spectacular experiences for all of us.
So, the next time you plan a trip to California, don’t forget to bring your camera, and maybe a couple of glowsticks, to get the perfect shot of these dazzling blue waves.
