New Hampshire – The police department in Hanover, New Hampshire received an urgent call early this morning alerting them to the sight of a deer trapped in a frozen pond.
The Chief of Police himself, Charlie Dennis, sprang into action, summoning a team of brave rescuers to save the hapless animal. With temperatures dipping below freezing, the rescue operation was hailed as a tremendous success as the deer was finally removed from the water after being stuck there for over an hour.
“Honestly, this is the pinnacle of our careers,” boasted Chief Dennis, flashing a smile of pride at the gathered news crews. “We were just glad we could be here to save that poor creature.”
Local residents crowded around the pond, desperate to catch a glimpse of the drama unfolding before their eyes. One onlooker, Mrs. Jenkins, was overcome by emotion. “It’s just so touching to see these brave rescuers working tirelessly to save that poor dear deer,” she said, wiping a tear from her eye.
Indeed, the local police department has been hailed as heroes for their swift action in rescuing the trapped animal. In a statement, the department said: “We are so proud of our officers and the entire team for the diligent work they put in to save this animal’s life. It just goes to show how dedicated our department is to serving our community.”
So far, there is no word on the condition of the deer, except to say that it appeared shaken up by the event. However, Chief Dennis has promised that the animal will receive the best possible treatment from local veterinarians, saying, “We will make sure this deer is back on its hooves in no time.”
However, not everyone was so impressed by the heroic rescue operation. Some residents were left scratching their heads, questioning the sheer amount of taxpayer money which was poured into saving a single deer.
“Really, is this what we’re spending our money on?” grumbled local businessman, Dan McAllister. “We’ve got more important things to worry about than a stupid deer. What about fixing our roads or dealing with the opioid crisis?”
Indeed, the rescue operation is estimated to have cost the town thousands of dollars in equipment, manpower, and other resources, which some residents argue, could have been better spent elsewhere.
Regardless of the debate surrounding the deer rescue, one thing is for sure: the police department will be remembered as heroes for their bravery in rescuing a helpless animal. Who knows, perhaps they’ll be called upon in the future to save other animals in distress – so long as they can justify the astronomical costs involved.
