Iraqi Airline Denies Responsibility for Bear’s In-Flight Escape
In what some might call a “shocking turn of events,” an Iraqi airline has denied any wrongdoing in relation to a bear’s escape from its crate aboard one of its planes during a recent flight to Dubai. The airline, which shall remain nameless (not that anyone was particularly interested in flying with them anyway), released a statement earlier today claiming that it was not at fault for the bear’s unexpected in-flight excursion.
According to the statement, the airline “did everything in its power” to ensure the bear’s safety during the flight. The crate itself was “of the highest quality” and “fully compliant with all international regulations,” the statement also noted. As for how the bear managed to escape from said crate and wreak havoc on the plane – well, that was apparently out of the airline’s hands.
“We regret any inconvenience caused by the bear’s escape,” the statement continued, “but we cannot be held responsible for the actions of a wild animal. We did not intend for the bear to disrupt the flight or cause damage to the plane, and we will not be held liable for any ensuing damages.”
The airline’s “not our fault, blame the bear” defense has drawn criticism from animal rights activists, who point out that the airline had a duty to ensure the bear was properly secured and cared for during the flight. “Simply putting a wild animal in a crate and hoping for the best is not an acceptable standard of care,” said one activist, who asked to remain anonymous because she didn’t want to be added to the airline’s no-fly list.
However, the airline has brushed off such criticism, calling it “ridiculous” and “unfounded.” “We have transported animals safely for many years,” the statement read. “This one isolated incident does not reflect the high standards of care and professionalism that our airline is known for.”
Meanwhile, the bear itself remains at large, having escaped from the plane and vanished into the Dubai airport. Reports of a rampaging, terrified bear trotting through the airport terminal have yet to be confirmed, but we can only assume it’s causing quite the stir amongst travelers and airport staff alike.
In the wake of this incident, it remains to be seen whether the airline will face any consequences for its alleged negligence. But one thing is for sure – they won’t be earning any prizes for customer service or animal welfare anytime soon.
