National Guard Officer Breaks World Record and Raises Money for Charity on “Good Morning America”

Army National Guard Officer Tommy Vu achieved an unbelievable accomplishment on Friday morning during a live broadcast of “Good Morning America.” Vu set a Guinness World Records title by doing the most burpee pull-ups in one minute. As if that wasn’t enough, he was also raising money for charity. Could he be any more amazing?

Vu completed an exhausting 31 burpee pull-ups in only one minute, breaking the previous record of 29. You could practically hear the applause of thousands of people watching across the country, or maybe just a few bored folks at home, as he made history with his impressive feat.

The burpee pull-up is not for the faint of heart. It requires performing a burpee, which starts with a jump and a simultaneous drop to the ground, followed by a push-up and then a jump back to a standing position. In order to complete the pull-up, Vu had to do a pull-up while holding onto a bar during the standing position of the burpee. It’s enough to make anyone break a sweat just thinking about it.

But Vu was not content with just breaking a world record. He also used the opportunity to raise money for the charity organization “Paws for Purple Hearts.” This charity provides therapy dogs to veterans who suffer from PTSD as a result of their service. Vu’s fundraising efforts were so successful that he surpassed his goal of $25,000. If only we could all be as productive as Vu.

Unfortunately, the rest of us will have to live with the guilt of not being as ambitious as this world-record holder. We’ll also have to bear the shame of not being able to do a single burpee pull-up ourselves. But at least we can take comfort in the fact that we’re not the only ones. Even some of the “Good Morning America” hosts tried to do one and failed spectacularly. It’s nice to know we’re not alone in our lack of athleticism.

Vu’s accomplishment is a reminder that we’re all capable of amazing things if we set our minds to it. Or maybe it’s just a reminder that some people are just freakishly talented. Either way, let’s all take a moment to appreciate Vu’s dedication to his country and to a good cause. And then let’s promptly forget about it and go back to our regular lives of sitting on the couch and binge-watching Netflix.
