Residents of the Township are in an uproar as officials have announced their plans to change the name of Harry Dick Road. The controversial street name has been at the center of numerous thefts of the road sign, prompting officials to take action.
After the most recent theft, officials reported that they received several complaints from residents who were unable to locate the road due to the missing sign. The Township Council met in an emergency session to discuss the matter and moved to draft a resolution to change the name of the road.
According to Councilman John Smith, the new name will be far more appropriate for the residents of the Township. “We understand that some people may be upset about the change, but we believe that the new name will better reflect the values of our community,” said Smith.
The proposed new name, Sunshine and Rainbows Lane, has been met with mixed reactions from residents. While some have embraced the new name as a symbol of positivity and hope, others are less enthusiastic.
“It’s ridiculous,” said longtime Harry Dick Road resident, Bob Johnson. “I’ve lived on this street for 30 years and now they want to change it to some cutesy name that sounds like it belongs in a children’s book.”
Johnson is not alone in his frustration. Several residents of Harry Dick Road have taken to social media to express their outrage, with many calling for the Township Council to abandon the name change.
“Are you serious?? Sunshine and Rainbows Lane? What kind of name is that?” wrote one resident in a Facebook post. “What’s next? Unicorns and Lollipops Drive?”
Despite the backlash, the Township Council maintains that the change is necessary to prevent future sign thefts and to better reflect the values of the community. “We want our residents to feel safe and secure in their neighborhoods,” said Smith. “And what better way to do that than with a cheerful name like Sunshine and Rainbows?”
The renaming process is expected to take several weeks, with officials noting that they will be working closely with residents to ensure a smooth transition. As for the fate of the stolen Harry Dick Road signs, the Township Council has yet to comment.
It remains to be seen whether the residents of Harry Dick Road will accept the new name or continue to protest the change. One thing is for certain, however – the Township Council is determined to put an end to the longstanding streak of sign thefts once and for all. Whether that means embracing the cheerful moniker of Sunshine and Rainbows Lane or not, remains to be seen.
