Because judging from recent polls, the public isnt exactly throwing confetti parades.
Let’s be clear: people hate AI right now. And not just a little dislike. We’re talking levels of disapproval typically reserved for ICE and wars in Iran! Seriously, according to an NBC News poll, AI has worse favorability than those things, despite nearly two-thirds of us having already used ChatGPT or Copilot. Thats impressive dedication to unpopularity.
And its not just grumpy old people complaining either. Gen Z – the digital natives who supposedly live for technology – are leading the charge in AI antipathy. They’re using it more than anyone, and simultaneously growing angrier about it! Gallup found only 18% of them are even remotely hopeful about this whole software brain takeover, a significant drop from last years already dismal 27%. A whopping 31%? Angry. Apparently, being forced to interact with an emotionless chatbot isn’t anyone’s idea of fun.
Even the tech titans get it! Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella – yes, the man literally profiting from this algorithmic nightmare – is out there saying they need to earn social permission to even use energy while pursuing AI. Because apparently, building a world nobody wants requires asking for permission first.
The problem isnt the technology itself; it’s the relentless push to automate everything and force it upon us. We don’t yearn for automated grocery shopping or robot therapists. We want human connection, spontaneity, and maybe just a little bit of chaos. Apparently, that doesnt fit into an algorithm, so Silicon Valley is trying to shove it down our throats anyway. And we are not having it.
