An Elephantine Display of Incompetence

Seriously? An elephant escaped? At a zoo? Are we operating under the assumption that zoos are merely elaborate suggestions, whimsical thought experiments in animal containment rather than actual institutions designed to, you know, keep animals inside enclosures? Because frankly, after this latest Albuquerque debacle, I’m leaning heavily toward the former.

Delayed opening? Thats putting it mildly! I picture a frantic scene of staff scrambling, probably tripping over themselves and each other while attempting to herd a multi-ton pachyderm back into its designated space. A public walkway! Imagine the potential for chaos – toddlers scattering like frightened mice, teenagers filming the whole thing for their TikTok accounts, tourists shrieking and dropping ice cream cones. All because someone apparently forgot to check that the elephant’s door was properly secured this morning.

And lets not even begin to discuss the cost of this little incident. Lost ticket revenue, overtime pay for bewildered staff, the inevitable investigation… all funded by who? Taxpayers! People who are already struggling with rising costs and crumbling infrastructure.

Honestly, it’s just spectacularly inept. A zoo is supposed to inspire awe and wonder, not provide a daily dose of existential dread about what might be roaming free next. Next thing you know, the giraffes will be sunbathing in the parking lot. I wouldnt put it past them at this point.
