A Sea of Oats: Because, Of Course It Did
Seriously? Grain? In 2024? Are we still operating under the assumption that transporting agricultural products on a major California highway is somehow…safe? Apparently so. Another day, another headline screaming about incompetence and chaos. This time it’s an overturned truck, blanketing I-5 in what appears to be enough oats to feed a small nation of squirrels.
Lets just pause for a moment and appreciate the sheer poetry of this disaster. The irony is almost beautiful – a vital artery choked by something supposedly nourishing. You can practically hear the collective groan of commuters, the frustrated honking blending with the rustling of spilled kernels. And I’m sure the clean-up crews are thrilled. Because nothing says great job like shoveling grain for hours in the California sun.
Of course, well get a statement about an “ongoing investigation” and assurances that safety is our top priority. As if. The fact that this happens with alarming regularity should be enough to suggest that perhaps, just maybe, we need to re-evaluate how we handle hauling massive loads across congested freeways. But no, let’s just clean it up, blame “unforeseen circumstances,” and wait for the next truck to decide it wants a nap in the middle of the road. Its all wonderfully predictable, isn’t it?
