Seriously? A bear? Behind a news reporter? Is this what weve devolved to? I tuned in expecting insightful analysis of, I don’t know, anything remotely important happening in the world. Instead, I got a blurry brown blob lumbering behind someone earnestly explaining… something about property taxes, I think. And people are losing their minds! Viral video! they scream. “Nature is amazing!” Amazing? Its a bear doing bear things. It wandered into a space it shouldn’t have been in and now were all supposed to be collectively impressed?
Honestly, the level of breathless reporting surrounding this incident is astounding. Did the reporter even notice the enormous creature casually strolling behind him? Probably not! He was far too focused on delivering his meticulously crafted sound bites about millage rates to acknowledge a potential mauling hazard.
Its just another perfect encapsulation of our current media landscape: triviality elevated to national importance, genuine events overshadowed by manufactured spectacle. I bet the bear itself is rolling its eyes. Probably thinking, You humans are ridiculous. And you know what? It’s probably right. Give me a substantive investigation any day over footage of wildlife accidentally photobombing someone’s broadcast. Please.
