Seriously? Eighteen minutes! Eighteen precious minutes stolen from a basketball game because…a scoreboard malfunctioned? Are you kidding me? I envisioned a thrilling NBA matchup between the Pistons and Cavaliers. What I got was an extended lesson in the absurdity of modern sports entertainment.
Its not even like it was a subtle glitch. No, no, this had to be a full-blown sonic assault from a blaring horn, presumably trying to announce…what? The imminent arrival of a particularly aggressive dust bunny? It’s almost as if the universe conspired to remind us that despite all the fancy cameras and high-definition broadcasts, at its core, professional sports is still deeply susceptible to embarrassing technical failures.
And Im sure everyone involved – from the players forced to stand around awkwardly to the fans subjected to this auditory torture – just found it utterly charming. I bet they’re already clamoring for a repeat performance next week! Because nothing screams “premium sporting experience” like prolonged, unexpected periods of silence punctuated by jarring, unexplained noises. Its practically a new level of fan engagement.
