The Peak of Absurdity: A Charizard Card and Our Collective Descent
Seriously? Sixteen million dollars? For a piece of cardboard featuring a cartoon lizard breathing fire? Im not even sure what’s more baffling – the price tag itself or the fact that people are actively willing to pay it. Weve reached peak ridiculousness, folks. It’s not just expensive; it’s an insult to anyone struggling with rent, healthcare, or literally anything remotely essential.
Apparently, this particular card was possessed by a YouTuber who now pretends to grapple professionally. Because, of course, that adds inherent value. As if the childhood nostalgia attached to these things wasnt already inflated enough, we need celebrity endorsement to validate their worth? It’s bafflingly transparent and deeply tiresome.
I understand collectibles have value; I sort of get the allure of limited editions. But this isnt about passion or appreciation anymore. This is a blatant display of wealth, an auction spectacle designed to flaunt disposable income that could solve actual problems.
It’s a symptom of a larger problem: our priorities are completely askew. We’re celebrating frivolous spending while ignoring the very real needs of people around us. Im genuinely struggling to believe this is happening in the same world as… well, everything else. Someone please explain to me how a piece of cardboard justifies that sum? I suspect Id need a doctorate in absurdity to even begin understanding.
