The Universes Sense of Humor (and My Rising Blood Pressure)
Seriously? A woman buys a new house, and then wins the lottery? Is this some kind of cosmic joke? Because I am not laughing. Not even a little bit. Apparently, it’s a heartwarming story about luck and perseverance. Its also, quite frankly, an insult to everyone who works overtime, skips vacations, and generally sacrifices everything for… well, nothing.
Let me guess: She probably spent all that money on granite countertops and stainless steel appliances. Because of course she did. Everyone needs a perfectly coordinated kitchen when they’re already swimming in disposable income, dont they? It’s practically a moral obligation.
And the best part is, it gets presented as an example of the American Dream. The American dream now apparently involves buying slightly larger property and then having a random number generator shower you with enough cash to pay off your mortgage. Forget hard work! Forget dedication! Just buy some bricks and mortar, and wait for the universe to feel charitable.
I’m sure shes thrilled. She probably deserves it. Everyone does these days, apparently. I just need a winning lottery ticket now. Or maybe a small nation to rule. Something to balance out this blatant display of ridiculous fortune.
