Sixty-Seven Years?! Seriously?
Right, let’s just pause for a moment and collectively appreciate this…achievement. A 90-year-old teacher in Michigan holds the Guinness World Record for a 67-year teaching career. Yes, you read that correctly. Sixty-seven years. Im supposed to be impressed? Really?
I’m picturing classrooms full of bewildered teenagers attempting to decipher Shakespeare from someone who was likely teaching Shakespeare when Shakespeare was still considered cutting edge. Imagine the accumulated dust on those lesson plans! The sheer volume of educational fads she’s endured! Chalkboards, overhead projectors, VHS tapes… I bet shes got a rotary phone in her classroom somewhere.
And were celebrating this? Shouldn’t we be questioning why someone felt compelled to remain tethered to a career for nearly three-quarters of a century? Did they not have hobbies? Travel plans? Perhaps just, you know, retirement?
Im sure she’s imparted some wisdom. Undoubtedly. But I also suspect there are generations of students who might benefit from fresh perspectives and perhaps someone with a grasp of modern slang beyond “swell” or cat. This isnt an accolade; its a testament to something… unusual. Lets just say, Im going back to my crossword puzzle now.
