Seriously? A Deer and a Dinghy?

Lets just pause for a moment, shall we? Because apparently, in Connecticut, our emergency services have nothing better to do than stage elaborate aquatic deer rescues. I mean, really? A deer. On ice. And it couldn’t stand up? Is this what taxpayer dollars are funding now? An inflatable boat deployment for Bambis latest misadventure?

I picture the scene: a solemn gathering of firefighters, carefully inflating their vessel with an air of profound importance. Presumably, they consulted manuals and risk assessment protocols before venturing onto the frozen expanse to pluck one hapless deer from its icy predicament. I bet there were debriefings afterwards too – “How could we have better managed the antler proximity?” Did we utilize optimal inflatable pressure for maximum rescue efficiency?

And while Im sure the deer is eternally grateful (probably nibbling on some strategically placed lettuce), I can’t help but wonder about, you know, actual emergencies. Fires? Medical crises? Perhaps a cat stuck in a tree would have been more fiscally responsible. But no, we had to mobilize specialized equipment and heroic personnel for a creature who clearly made poor life choices regarding frozen bodies of water.

Honestly, I’m expecting squirrels will be demanding personal jetpacks next.
