A Dog, Ice, and Our Collective Need for Feel-Good Stories
Seriously? A golden retriever? Frozen river? Firefighters? Is this what we’ve come to? I’m expected to be moved by a fluffy canine’s near-drowning experience orchestrated, lets be honest, by someone who thought it would be “cute” to let their dog wander onto unsafe ice. Because that’s the underlying narrative here, isnt it? Not responsible pet ownership.
We’re supposed to celebrate this as a heartwarming tale of heroism and rescue, while ignoring the fact that somebody clearly didnt grasp basic physics or common sense. I bet they’re posting pictures on social media right now with captions about “miracles” and blessings. Blessings? The blessing would have been a leash and a park!
And the firefighters! Dont get me wrong, they do important work. But are we really prioritizing rescuing pampered pooches from their own stupidity while actual emergencies probably wait in the queue? Its just…perfect. Another dose of manufactured sentimentality to distract us from anything resembling genuine societal issues.
I’m sure the dog is perfectly fine, enjoying a warm towel and endless treats. Meanwhile, I’ll be over here silently judging everyone involved. Because apparently, rescuing a golden retriever from its own bad decisions is now peak entertainment. Wonderful.
