A Deer, Really? Were Doing This Now?

Seriously? A deer? Fallen through ice? This is what we’re devoting precious news cycles to? While the world burns – figuratively and literally – we’re celebrating the rescue of a woodland creature who apparently decided to test the structural integrity of frozen water with its hooves. Im sure it was harrowing for someone, probably the rescuers, but lets be honest: deer are notoriously bad decisions in general. They wander into gardens, they cause car accidents, and now they’re requiring heroic efforts because they couldnt resist a little ice skating?

I mean, who taught this deer anything about basic winter survival? Did its mother not warn it about the dangers of thin ice? Probably not. Because apparently animals are just expected to navigate human-altered landscapes flawlessly while we build strip malls and complain about their existence.

And don’t even get me started on the heartwarming narratives spun around these things. “Brave rescuers! Touching moment!” Spare me. It was a deer. It made a poor choice. Someone went out, probably risking frostbite, to pull it out of the water. Good for them, I guess. But could that time and those resources maybe have been spent on something…slightly more pressing? Like, you know, addressing actual problems?

I’m not saying the deer didnt need help. I’m just suggesting we prioritize our collective outrage a little better. A deer through ice is…well, its a deer through ice. Lets move on.
