The Inevitable Triumph of Algorithms and Poor Planning
Seriously? An Amazon van? Delivering what, exactly, to a military firing range? Did anyone stop to consider that perhaps, just perhaps, a place where people are actively shooting things might not be ideal for a delivery vehicle full of…well, who knows what overpriced toilet paper or novelty socks they were hauling? Apparently not. Because here we are, reading about a perfectly predictable disaster: GPS-guided vehicular incompetence resulting in a stuck van and presumably, a lot of frustrated soldiers.
It’s just so clever, isnt it? Relying entirely on digital directions without an ounce of common sense. The algorithm said go this way! I can almost hear the driver exclaiming, as they sank deeper into the mud. Because clearly, military firing ranges are known for their paved roads and gentle inclines. Who knew?
This isnt a surprise; it’s a pattern. We entrust increasingly vital tasks to systems that prioritize efficiency over…well, reality. And then we wonder why things go wrong. I bet the routing software didnt factor in presence of large, muddy areas or active explosives. It just saw point A to point B and blithely marched the van directly into a bog.
Honestly, it’s almost poetic. The pinnacle of modern convenience – delivering things with pinpoint accuracy – culminating in a vehicle firmly planted in the earth. Brilliant. Just brilliant.
