Right then. Let’s celebrate! A baby elephant has been born at a French zoo. How utterly delightful. Just what the world needed: another fuzzy, grey creature requiring an enormous amount of food, water, and space while we collectively ignore the impending climate crisis that will likely render its habitat unsuitable in a few decades.
Seriously? Were all cooing over this tiny trunk and flapping ears when entire ecosystems are collapsing? It’s like getting excited about a new ceramic gnome collection while your house is slowly sinking into quicksand. A moment of manufactured joy, meticulously crafted for our consumption, distracts us from the genuinely pressing issues facing humanity.
Im sure the zookeepers are doing “vital conservation work.” I’m certain they are. Meanwhile, that adorable baby elephant will spend its life in an enclosure, a simulacrum of a natural environment, providing entertainment for well-meaning but ultimately complacent families. Its heartwarming, apparently.
