Really? A Dog and a Pond? Seriously?
Let’s just pause for a moment, shall we? New Years Day. A time for reflection, resolutions, maybe a slightly regrettable amount of eggnog. But apparently, its also prime time for dramatic dog rescues involving frozen ponds. Because that’s exactly what the world needs, folks. Another heartwarming story about a yellow Labrador named Phoenix – yes, Phoenix, as if we needed more blatant attempts at sentimentality – falling through some ice and requiring the heroic intervention of Rhode Island firefighters.
I mean, honestly! Did anyone stop to consider, just for a fleeting second, that perhaps the owner should have kept their canine companion away from a body of water clearly covered in ice? Was there no signage? Were they actively encouraging Phoenix’s aquatic escapades? Were told he was “rescued.” Rescued from what? His own poor judgment? The consequences of defying common sense and basic physics?
And the firefighters! Bless their hearts, undoubtedly busy with actual emergencies. But now they get to bask in the warm glow of rescuing a dog who, frankly, should have known better. I’m sure Phoenix is incredibly grateful. He probably licked all over them as a show of appreciation. Wonderful. Just what we needed – more viral videos celebrating questionable life choices and glorified pet owner negligence.
Can we please move on now? There are far more pressing issues in the world than a soggy Labrador Retriever.
