The Universes Cruelest Joke: A Lottery Winner Through Incompetence
Seriously? Are we rewarding incompetence now? I just read a story about an Illinois woman who accidentally won $250,000 playing FastPlay online. Accidentally! As if the lottery wasn’t already designed to bleed small amounts of money from hopeful dreamers, now were celebrating those who cant even manage to click the right button?
I imagine the scene: she probably meant to buy a “Mega Millions Spectacular Deluxe” or something equally ridiculous and instead ended up with… whatever this FastPlay nonsense is. And because the cosmos has a deeply twisted sense of humor, that becomes her ticket to riches.
Meanwhile, hardworking people diligently research odds, meticulously choose numbers based on birthdays and anniversaries (because apparently that makes a difference), and end up with absolutely nothing. They play by the rules! They invest time and effort into this fleeting fantasy! And what do they get? Crickets. Just crickets chirping about their misplaced hope.
This woman? She gets a quarter of a million dollars for being spectacularly, hilariously careless. It’s just…perfectly infuriating. Im sure shell be giving interviews, dispensing wisdom about following your dreams. Right. Follow your dreams by accidentally clicking the wrong thing and becoming instantly wealthy. Fantastic advice!
It’s enough to make you want to throw your lottery tickets in the trash—which, lets be honest, is probably where they should have been in the first place.
