The Inevitable, Utter Collapse of Competitive Gaming
Seriously? A grandmother just won a “Tekken 8” tournament? I’m not even sure I’m allowed to be surprised anymore. Weve officially reached peak absurdity in this whole esports charade. It started with streamers and became about sponsorships, now its apparently open season for anyone with a pulse – or, you know, a walker.
Dont misunderstand: bless her heart, the woman probably deserves a medal for living to 92, let alone mastering complex button combinations. But this isn’t a feel-good story; its a glaring spotlight on how utterly hollow these competitions have become. Where’s the dedication? The years of grueling practice and sacrifice? Apparently, they’ve been replaced by…gentle strategy and maybe some Werther’s Originals?
I fully expect to see a toddler taking home first place in League of Legends next week. Then a goldfish. Why not? Its all just spectacle now, manufactured for clicks and fleeting internet amusement. The barrier to entry has become so ridiculously low that the very concept of skill has been rendered meaningless.
This isn’t celebrating achievement; it’s pandering to a lowest-common denominator desire for viral content. I bet the prize money was probably better than my retirement savings, too. Fantastic. Just…fantastic.
