Really? A Loon and a Skater? Seriously?
Right, because we needed another heartwarming tale of human intervention in nature. Apparently, a Maine ice skater – bless her cotton socks – felt compelled to “rescue” a loon trapped on a frozen pond. Lets just pause for a moment and consider the sheer absurdity of this situation. A loon. On ice. Do we really need a hero to pluck it free?
I mean, come on! Loons live in lakes. They swim. They dive. It was frozen! Did anyone stop to think that perhaps the loon knew what it was doing? Maybe it was taking a strategic nap. Or perhaps it was contemplating the existential dread of winter and decided a frozen platform offered a moments peace from the relentless chill.
But no, we couldn’t let nature run its course, could we? A skater had to swoop in, driven by some misguided sense of moral obligation. Now, I’m sure she feels very good about herself, receiving praise and accolades for her heroic deed. But what if, just what if, the loon would have been perfectly fine on its own? What if this intervention disrupted a natural process, however brief?
Honestly, people. Just leave the wildlife alone! Let the ecosystem work as it should. It’s not your job to play rescuer every time a bird finds itself in an inconvenient location. Its truly baffling.
