## Behold! A Large Language Model, Apparently Also Lost

Right then. Let’s talk about this… *thing*. This 3.12 billion parameter behemoth that’s supposed to be changing everything. You know, the one they’re pushing as a revolutionary step forward in artificial intelligence. Because apparently, spitting out slightly less predictable text is now equivalent to solving world hunger and inventing teleportation.

Honestly, reading its outputs feels remarkably similar to having a particularly verbose parrot recite Wikipedia entries back at you. It’s technically *generating* language, sure. But is it *understanding* anything? Is it possessing even a flicker of genuine insight? I’d argue no. It’s impressive in the way a meticulously constructed diorama of a rainforest is impressive – aesthetically pleasing, maybe, but ultimately lacking the vibrant chaos and unpredictable beauty of the real thing.

And the claims! The marketing! “Open and accessible!” they cry. As if unleashing another massive computational drain on the planet while simultaneously restricting access to its inner workings truly constitutes accessibility. It’s like offering someone a single crumb from a banquet table, then declaring you’re democratizing sustenance.

I suppose I shouldn’t be surprised. We live in an age where “innovation” often boils down to rearranging existing components and slapping a new name on it. This is the digital equivalent of finding a stray emu wandering loose through a San Diego suburb – mildly amusing, vaguely unsettling, and ultimately just another symptom of our collective desire for novelty at any cost.

It’s certainly… *something*. Just don’t expect it to write your novel or solve climate change anytime soon. It will, however, probably generate a perfectly acceptable paragraph about the migratory patterns of emus. Because that’s what it does best – regurgitate information in a vaguely coherent manner. Wonderful.
