**BREAKING: MIRACLE ON THE OHIO RIVER – HEROIC CANINE SURVIVES DEATH-DEFYING RESCUE**

Pittsburgh, PA – In a daring display of aquatic acrobatics, a dramatic rescue unfolded on the Ohio River yesterday evening, as a brave firefighter plucked a bedraggled but triumphant pup from the jaws of aquatic despair.

The canine hero, identified as “Rufus” – a 3-year-old golden retriever mix with a penchant for chasing squirrels and ignoring basic water safety – was spotted clinging to a partially submerged log in the middle of the river, yelping pitifully as the sun set over the Pittsburgh skyline.

“I was just out for a stroll along the riverbank when I heard the most pitiful whimpering,” said Jane Doe, a local resident who witnessed the rescue. “I looked out and saw this poor pup flailing about, its fur matted with riverweed and its paws waving wildly in the air. I thought for sure it was a goner!”

Enter our hero, Fireman Bob Johnson, a grizzled veteran of the Pittsburgh Fire Department with a heart of gold and a penchant for aquatic heroics. Johnson, who has saved countless kittens from trees and now dogs from rivers, sprang into action, racing to the scene in a blaze of sirens and glory.

“I didn’t hesitate – I just leapt into action, my trusty rescue rope at the ready,” Johnson declared, his voice dripping with machismo. “I rappelled down the riverbank, dodging low-hanging branches and leaping over rocks, all while keeping a watchful eye on the distressed pup.”

As Johnson reached the water’s edge, he expertly tossed a flotation device to Rufus, who promptly wrapped its paws around it and held on for dear life. With the pup secure, Johnson then proceeded to swim out to the middle of the river, battling against the strong currents and icy waters.

“It was like something out of a Hollywood blockbuster!” exclaimed Doe, still shaken by the ordeal. “I was on the edge of my seat, wondering if Bob would make it out alive!”

Finally, after what seemed like an eternity, Johnson and Rufus made it back to shore, where they were greeted as heroes by a cheering crowd of onlookers.

Rufus, who was shaken but unharmed, was reunited with its overjoyed owner, who had been searching frantically for the beloved pet.

As for Johnson, he’s being hailed as a hero and is set to receive the Key to the City, a year’s supply of rescue ropes, and a guaranteed spot on the cover of “Firehouse Weekly” magazine.

When asked about his heroic actions, Johnson humbly replied, “Hey, it’s all in a day’s work for a firefighter – and a pretty sweet mustache.”
