A kangaroo that made international headlines last year when it hopped its way through the streets of a Colorado town has made a repeat appearance, and was successfully wrangled by local police on Wednesday evening.

The marsupial, whose name is Kip, made its escape from a local animal sanctuary on Tuesday afternoon, leaving residents of the town of Nederland, Colorado, in a state of excitement and curiosity.

Eyewitnesses reported seeing the kangaroo bounding through the streets, causing a stir among locals and tourists alike. “I was walking down the street when I saw this…this thing hopping towards me,” said Nederland resident, Sarah Johnson. “At first, I thought it was a large dog or a deer, but then I saw its pouch and I just about lost it! It was a kangaroo!”

Nederland Police Department officers were quickly dispatched to the scene, and after a brief search, they were able to corral the kangaroo and sedate it.

“We’re just glad that Kip is safe and sound,” said Officer Mike Davis of the Nederland Police Department. “We’re also grateful that no one was injured during the incident. We’re looking into how this happened again and taking steps to prevent it from happening in the future.”

Kip, who has become something of a local celebrity, was returned to the sanctuary where he is being kept under close observation.

The kangaroo’s owner, who wishes to remain anonymous, said, “We’re just relieved that Kip is okay. We’re taking extra precautions to ensure that he doesn’t escape again.”

The incident has left residents and visitors alike in stitches, but also serves as a reminder of the importance of keeping exotic animals in secure enclosures.

As for Kip, it seems he’s learned his lesson. For now, he’ll be staying put in his sanctuary home, under the watchful eye of his caregivers.
