Reunited and It Feels So…Expensive?

A heartwarming reunion took place in Florida recently when a family was reunited with their dog after ten long years apart. The reunion was made possible, the animal shelter said, thanks to the microchip implanted in the dog when she was a puppy. “We always encourage pet owners to microchip their animals,” said the shelter’s spokesperson. “It’s a quick and easy way to ensure that if your pet ever goes missing, there’s a higher chance they’ll be returned to you.”

But while the story may bring tears to your eyes and warm your heart, there’s a not-so-heartwarming side to the tale. You see, in those ten years since the dog went missing, the family had to – gasp – get a new dog. That’s right, they replaced the missing pup with a younger model. Sure, it’s just a dog, but still, who does that? Apparently, this family does.

But wait, there’s more. When the family was reunited with their long-lost pooch, the shelter informed them that there was a $200 fee for the dog’s stay in the shelter. Two hundred dollars?! That’s almost as much as a new puppy! What kind of animal shelter charges people to reunite with their own pets? Wait, don’t answer that. We all know that animal shelters are notoriously cash-strapped and run on a shoestring budget. So, it’s understandable that they would try to recoup some costs wherever they can.

But seriously, $200? That’s just cruel. And what’s worse, the shelter had to hold onto the dog for several weeks before it was reunited with its family, adding even more cost to the already hefty fees. Oh, and let’s not forget the cost of the microchip itself, which can run anywhere from $50 to $100.

It’s important to note, however, that the family was overjoyed to be reunited with their pet – and understandably so. Dogs are, after all, man’s best friend. And who wouldn’t want to be reunited with their best friend after ten long years apart? It’s just a shame that it cost them so much to do so. But in the end, it was all worth it for the family, who now have both their old and new dogs to love and cherish.

So, what’s the moral of this heartwarming yet expensive tale? Microchip your pets, folks. Because if they ever do go missing, it might just break the bank to get them back.
