Family Friend’s Dog Found Near Mexican Border After Four-Year Adventure

In an extraordinary story of canine survival, a family friend’s dog that was lost in Colorado in 2020 has sprung up almost 600 miles away near the Mexican border after four long years of who knows what.

According to sources, the dog, named Dexter, was lost from his family friend’s home due to his adventurous nature, but no one knew what had become of him and whether he had met his fate with some wild beast or hit a tree branch at full speed.

But Dexter had his own plans and after four years of living the dream, he was recently found near the Mexican border in Texas, ready to tell his story.

The dog’s journey to the border is still somewhat of a mystery, but locals believe he may have had the help of ambitious coyotes or hitched a ride with a group of traveling squirrels.

Although he looked scrappy and unrecognizable from his previous life in Colorado, Dexter was immediately identified through a microchip lodged under his skin.

According to his new owners, reporting from Fox News, Dexter was in good spirits and happy to lap up the attention from people he had never met before, though he showed a slight disdain for those who had abandoned him all those years ago.

Local dog experts cited Dexter’s story as an example of just how resilient dogs can be in times of trouble, but also an example of just how foolish humans can be when it comes to keeping hold of their beloved pets.

As one local expert stated, “if only humankind was as smart and robust as our four-legged friends, then perhaps we wouldn’t need to rely on microchips or GPS trackers to keep tabs on our lost pets. But alas, we are not, and on occasion we must reap the consequences of our ignorance.”

Although Dexter’s tale has a happy ending, the story serves as a reminder to all pet owners on the importance of keeping your animals close and avoiding any cowboy-like antics such as letting them roam free into the wilderness.

In light of Dexter’s adventure and his journey home (or not), we can only assume that there are countless other dogs living their own stories that we will never know about, but we can say that at least Dexter is now sleeping soundly with a full belly and someone to call his own.
