Hong Kong – The world’s most important event of the year has finally taken place, and we are not referring to the presidential election, no, no! We are talking about the creation of a dragon sculpture made out of 38,000 balloons that earned a world record at a Hong Kong shopping mall. Yes, you read that right, balloons.
The shopping mall, which shall remain nameless because we wouldn’t want to give them any more publicity, decided to defy the laws of physics and create a sculpture that seemed more appropriate for a children’s party than a Guinness World Record. The sculpture, which spans the length of 53 meters, was allegedly designed to celebrate the mall’s 10th anniversary. Now we’re not saying that they took this as an opportunity to show off their lack of sense, but we don’t see any other reason why you would create such a thing.
Now, it is important to note that we have not been able to confirm this, but a source close to the situation suggested that the mall’s marketing team had initially considered other options for this celebration, such as maybe a firework display, a concert or even a donation to a charity. But after an excessive number of drinks at the Christmas party or a terrible hangover, someone must have made the marvelous decision to create a dragon out of balloons, and then they rolled with it like it was the most incredible idea ever.
We cannot take away the glory from the shopping mall; the dragon sculpture is impressive, ‘insanely’ impressive. What a fantastic achievement and the entire world is in shock at how this was even possible. We hear that it took ten people, working non-stop for four days, to simply inflate all the balloons! And, let alone the carpel tunnel syndrome they must have suffered from knotting each balloon individually. It is a wonder that life exists at all and that the universe hasn’t stopped the laws of physics for this momentous occasion.
The sheer amount of resources that were used for this project is also commendable. The mall must have contributed to the growth of the economy by purchasing all those balloons; we wouldn’t be surprised if Balloons Inc gets listed on the stock exchange soon. I mean, the contribution that Balloons Inc. made to the economy can never be forgotten.
The Guinness World Record committee could not have thrilled the shopping mall any better. They must have been celebrating for days now, feeling all the love and admiration from around the world. After all, it’s not every day that a dragon sculpture made from balloons sets a world record. The statue can now take its rightful place, squeezed between other world records such as the world’s largest pizza, the world’s longest fingernails, and the world’s largest underpants.
The challenge now is what to do with the sculpture. Will they use it for ‘sustainable’ purposes such as making millions of balloon animals for birthday parties? Or will it be converted into a light installation and mounted on top of the mall like a beacon of inspiration for generations to come? We shall wait and find out, but our guess is that it will probably be deflated and thrown in the garbage, knowing the shopping mall’s ever-evolving nature.
We at the newsroom, cannot wait to see what the shopping mall comes up with next. The skies appear to be the limit, but who knows, they may surpass those limits too. With the Guinness World Record firmly in their hands, what more could they dream of?
