Motorists traveling on the highway outside of Shreveport, Louisiana, were in for an unexpected surprise earlier today when an overturned truck carrying Dr. Pepper and 7Up products covered the road in sugary goodness.
At first, drivers were ecstatic at the prospect of free sodas raining from the sky. But as the sticky, carbonated liquid began to seep into their vehicles and ruin their paint jobs, the mood quickly turned sour.
One particularly unlucky driver, who wished to remain anonymous, told us, “I thought this was a dream come true at first. But now, my car smells like a frat house on a Sunday morning. And do you know how hard it is to get soda out of upholstery? I’m going to be scrubbing this for weeks.”
Emergency crews were quickly dispatched to the scene, but they soon realized that this was no ordinary traffic accident. With both northbound and southbound lanes covered in a deluge of Dr. Pepper and 7Up, the cleanup effort was going to require some extra help.
Thankfully, the manufacturers of Dr. Pepper and 7Up, Keurig Dr. Pepper Inc. and PepsiCo Inc., respectively, were more than happy to lend a hand.
In a joint statement, the companies said, “We are committed to doing our part to clean up this mess and ensure the safety of those affected. While we’re sorry for the inconvenience, we also hope that this incident will remind people of the refreshing taste and quality of our beloved soft drinks.”
Local authorities are warning motorists to avoid the area if possible, as the cleanup could take hours or even days. However, for those willing to brave the sugary flood, there is a silver lining.
One bystander, who identified herself as a self-proclaimed “soda enthusiast,” said, “I’ve never seen so much soda in one place before. This is like a heaven-sent opportunity to try every flavor of Dr. Pepper and 7Up without having to buy them all. It’s like a soda buffet, and I’m not leaving until I’ve tried them all.”
As for the driver of the truck, he has been taken into custody and is facing charges of reckless driving and transporting hazardous materials without proper precautions. However, some are speculating that his real crime was wasting so much delicious soda.
In a Facebook post that has since gone viral, user Sally Jones wrote, “This is an outrage. Think of all the thirsty people in the world who would kill for a sip of Dr. Pepper or 7Up, and this guy just goes and spills it all over the road. They should lock him up and throw away the key.”
At this time, it is unclear what will become of the overturned truck or its contents. All we know for sure is that it will be a long time before anyone forgets the day the highway was transformed into a soda wonderland.
