New Jersey Sanctuary Welcomes Lost Brooklyn Sheep
In a heartwarming story that will make you bleat with joy, a lonely sheep has found a new home at a sanctuary in New Jersey after being discovered wandering the mean streets of Brooklyn.
The fluffy herbivore, which has yet to be named, was first spotted by concerned citizens in the Greenpoint neighborhood of Brooklyn. Judging by its unkempt wool and bemused expression, it had likely been wandering around the city for some time, perhaps trying to find its way to the nearest hipster cafe.
Thankfully, the sheep was corralled by animal control authorities and taken to the Skylands Sanctuary and Animal Rescue in Sussex County, New Jersey.
The sanctuary, which specializes in providing a home for abused and neglected farm animals, was delighted to welcome their new ovine friend.
“We are honored to be able to offer a safe and loving home to this adorable sheep,” said Skylands Sanctuary executive director Mike Stura, who admitted to feeling a “sheepish” joy at the sight of the beleaguered creature.
While the sheep is reportedly settling in well to its new surroundings, it remains unclear how it ended up alone on the bustling streets of Brooklyn. Some observers speculate that it may have slipped out of a nearby butcher shop while it was being prepped for a particularly ironic artisanal lamb chop. Others suggest that it may have escaped from a nearby petting zoo, possibly in search of a more exciting nightlife.
Whatever the case may be, animal rights activists are hailing the sheep’s rescue as a victory not only for the individual animal but for wider efforts to raise awareness about the plight of farm animals in an increasingly urbanized world.
“Farm animals are sentient beings that deserve to live out their lives in peace and dignity, just like any other creature,” said Karen Davis, president of United Poultry Concerns, an animal welfare organization based in Virginia.
“By rescuing this sheep, Skylands Sanctuary is shining a light on the often-overlooked suffering that farm animals endure in factory farms and other industrial settings. We hope that this story will inspire more people to make compassionate choices in their daily lives, such as choosing plant-based foods and supporting animal sanctuaries.”
As for the sheep, it is reportedly enjoying its newfound freedom and basking in the love of its new human caretakers. Its future at the sanctuary is bright, and it can look forward to a lifetime of grazing, sunbathing, and receiving affectionate head scratches from adoring visitors.
