‘Tis the season for Christmas lights, carols, and apparently, surprise guests. A woman from the great state of Texas got the most wonderful time of the year started with a bang when she found an opossum nestled in the branches of her Christmas tree. Move over, Santa Claus, there’s a new furry critter in town.
It’s ironic – while many people are out looking for a Christmas tree to put in their homes with the intention of creating a festive atmosphere, this woman had a guest in the form of a tree-dwelling opossum who attempted to find solace in her treetop nest. The poor creature probably deserved a break from all the drama it must face with the hustle and bustle of Christmas festivities.
This has led us to the question- are opossums the new Christmas mascots? I mean, who hasn’t dreamed of an adorable little marsupial taking shelter in their tree during the holidays?
However, we shouldn’t jump to conclusions- what if the opossum was actually trying to escape from the excessive commercialization and consumerism of Christmas? Perhaps it simply wanted a reprieve from all the tinsel and lights.
Another interesting thought to consider is that this opossum might have come from an important mission impossible- trying to steal from the poor woman’s chocolate box which she kept under the tree. Who knows?
In any case, this furry creature was not a festive decoration that the woman expected, but it certainly added an element of surprise to her holiday season. It’s like finding a toy inside your cereal box – only this toy is alive, and it’s not made of cheap plastic.
Some might call this an opossum-tastic experience. Others might say it’s just plain weird. We’re not here to judge, we’re just here to report it.
The woman, who remains unnamed, had the presence of mind to document this unexpected Christmas miracle. In the video she posted, she can be seen baffled and unprepared in confronting the opossum lounging in her Christmas tree. She calls her friend for some backup and utters a “Oh my God, are you serious?” – Christmas spirit at its finest.
This just goes to show you that anything can happen come Christmas time. You might wake up to a tree filled with presents or an opossum, and you just never know which one it’s going to be.
All things considered, this whole opossum fiasco is just a tiny bump in the road for the woman and her holiday spirit. She said that she safely managed to set the creature free, back out into the wild. Kudos to her for being a caring host.
Let’s just hope this little guy doesn’t find its way into more Christmas festivities this year – unless it wants to start singing along with cue cards to “Jingle Bells.”
