In what could only be described as a true King Kong-style adventure, a monkey has recently been spotted raiding gardens and parks after escaping a Scottish zoo. The small primate, who goes by the name of Houdini amongst zoo staff, is believed to have escaped his enclosure in the middle of the night on Wednesday and has been leading local residents on a wild goose chase ever since.

“It’s become somewhat of a game now,” says local resident, Betty McAllister. “Every day we wake up and check our gardens and birdfeeders to see if Houdini the monkey has paid us a visit. It’s almost like he’s become a local celebrity!”

The monkey has been spotted across the city, but his favourite (or perhaps most lucrative) destination appears to be the gardens and birdfeeders of local residents. Many have awoken to find their cherished vegetable patches or flower beds ransacked and the culprit nowhere in sight.

“It’s really quite impressive how he manages to get into our gardens undetected,” says resident Samuel Wilson. “I swear one night I even saw him shimmying up a tree like some sort of tiny Tarzan. It’s both hilarious and infuriating at the same time!”

Despite the light-hearted tone, the authorities are taking the monkey’s escapades seriously. “While it may seem amusing to some people, Houdini’s escape is a serious issue,” explains zookeeper Sarah Jennings. “Not only is he putting himself in danger, but he could also pose a threat to the public if he becomes frightened or disorientated.”

The zoo has appealed to members of the public to contact them immediately if they spot Houdini, who is described as approximately two feet tall with light brown fur and a cheeky grin. They have also urged local residents to secure their gardens and birdfeeders in an effort to prevent further disruption and destruction.

“Of course, we don’t want to discourage Houdini’s adventurous spirit,” explains Jennings. “But we would much rather he did it in a safe and controlled environment, rather than causing chaos in the local community.”

As for Houdini himself, only time will tell whether his antics will continue or if he will finally be caught and returned to the zoo. For now, residents of the city can only hope that they will wake up each morning to their gardens unscathed and the cheeky monkey long gone.
