Birds have always been known for their ability to fly, but one particular parrot seems to have gotten a bit tired of flapping its wings. Instead of choosing to fly out of its enclosure, the parrot decided to take a less conventional path to freedom – by hitching a ride on a visitor’s shoulder.
The incident occurred at the British Zoo, where the parrot – named “Polly” – had been cooped up for quite some time. Evidently, Polly had grown tired of the mundane routine that her captors had forced upon her, and was seeking a chance for adventure.
Naturally, Polly must have thought, what better way to escape from the confines of a zoo than by securing a ride from a human being?
And so, with a twinkle in its beady little eye, Polly leapt onto an unsuspecting visitor’s shoulder. At first, the visitor was startled. But once he realized what was happening, he couldn’t help but smile at the clever bird’s ingenuity.
“I was just standing there, minding my own business, when this parrot jumps onto me,” the visitor recounted. “At first, I was a bit taken aback. But then I thought to myself, ‘What the heck, let’s roll with it!'”
And roll with it they did. Polly perched contentedly on the visitor’s shoulder as they made their way out of the zoo together. It was a charming sight to behold – the playful bird and the amused human wandering off into the great unknown.
Of course, the zookeepers weren’t too thrilled about the parrot’s little escapade. After all, they’re the ones who are supposed to be in charge of the animals’ welfare, and having a bird make a run for it is hardly a ringing endorsement of their security measures.
“We’re certainly reviewing our policies in light of this incident,” said one frazzled-looking zookeeper. “We don’t want any more birds to take advantage of our visitors and sneak out of the enclosure. It’s just not fair to the other animals.”
For his part, the visitor who had unintentionally aided Polly’s escape was philosophical about the whole thing. “I mean, sure, I probably should have noticed earlier that there was a parrot sitting on my shoulder,” he admitted. “But in a way, I’m kind of honored that Polly trusted me enough to take her out of there. It’s not every day you get to befriend a bird like that.”
As for Polly herself, word has it that she’s still out there somewhere, flitting around and having the time of her life. And who knows? Maybe she’ll return to the zoo someday, with a newfound appreciation for the joys of birdie flight.
In any case, one thing’s for sure: the parrot’s little adventure goes to show that when it comes to freedom, there’s more than one way to wing it.
