Unprecedented heights of human achievement were reached in 2023 as the Guinness World Records were broken left, right and center. However, it wasn’t just humans who were taking center stage this time around. Cats, spoons, and even Mr. Potato Head himself made it to the record books this year.
So, without further ado, let’s take a look at the most mind-boggling, earth-shattering records that were broken this year.
Cat Walks for a Cause
First up, we have the most skips by a cat in one minute. Now, we would like to think that all cats are graceful and athletic, but this one takes the cake (or should we say the fish?). With a record-breaking 80 skips in just one minute, this cat could easily give any human a run for their money. But let’s be honest, we all know that cats are simply too cool to care about records. This cat probably broke the record by accident while trying to avoid its owner’s attempts at cuddling.
Cut the Cheese
Next up, we have the loudest burp. Now, this is a record that we have all secretly tried to break at some point in our lives. But it takes a real champion to let one rip at 112 decibels. We can only hope that this person celebrated their achievement with a giant, spicy Mexican meal.
Spoonful of Fun
Our third record of the day is the most spoons balanced on the body. Believe it or not, this record holder managed to balance a whopping 479 spoons on their body at once. We’re not sure what the practical application of this skill is, but we’re pretty sure it involves a lot of free time and a huge collection of spoons.
Mr. Potato Head Goes Rogue
Next up, we have the fastest time to assemble Mr. Potato Head while blindfolded. Yes, you read that right. This person managed to put together a plastic potato toy in just 17.8 seconds while completely blindfolded. We’re not sure whether to be impressed or concerned about what else this person is capable of doing while blindfolded.
Keeping Time
Our fifth record of the day is the longest time spent jumping on a pogo stick. Now, we’re not sure why anyone would subject themselves to such torture, but this person managed to bounce for a total of 36 hours and 4 minutes. We can only hope that they had a lot of ibuprofen and a soft bed waiting for them at the end of their bouncing session.
World’s Buzziest Beekeeper
Up next, we have the most bees covering a person’s body. Now, this one had us buzzing with excitement. This brave beekeeper managed to cover themselves with a staggering 1 million bees. We can only imagine the amount of itching and scratching that ensued after this record was broken.
The Balancing Act
Our seventh record of the day is the most cans balanced on a person’s head. This record holder managed to keep a total of 117 cans balanced on their head at once. We’re not sure if this is incredibly impressive or just a waste of good beer.
Nature’s Trampoline
Our eighth record of the day is the longest person to person distance jumped in a car. Now, we’re not sure if this is something that anyone would want to attempt, but this driver managed to jump a distance of 237.95 feet. We can only hope that they had a serious suspension system in that car.
Sweet Escape
Our second-to-last record of the day is the most people to cram into a smart car. This group of 19 people managed to contort themselves into one tiny car. We can only imagine the amount of screaming, sweating and begging to be let out that occurred during this attempt.
Going the Extra Mile
Last but not least, we have the longest distance walked on a tightrope while wearing flaming boots. Yes, you read that correctly. This brave soul managed to walk a distance of 640 meters on a tightrope while wearing boots that were on fire. We’re not sure if this is incredibly impressive or just plain insane.
So, there you have it folks. The ten most mind-boggling, heart-stopping, and just plain odd records that were broken in 2023. We can only hope that 2024 brings even more bizarre achievements for us to gawk at.
