NEW YORK, USA – In a shocking turn of events, the Wildlife Conservation Society’s Bronx Zoo has announced that their second baby giraffe born in 2021 is, *drum roll please,* a girl! The calf has been named Pippi, after the famous fictional character who happened to be an independent trouble-maker.

The zookeepers, who were clearly lacking in creativity, named her Pippi because she has “incredibly long legs, a playful personality, and a distinctive coat pattern.” Because, let’s face it, what else could you name a giraffe that has all those characteristics? Maybe they were hoping she would get into some trouble and spice things up over there, who knows.

Despite the excitement surrounding the birth, some animal rights activists are furious with the zoo for naming the giraffe after a fictional character. “This proves that humans continue to objectify and commodify animals for their own entertainment,” said a spokesperson for PETA in a statement. “The Bronx Zoo should be ashamed of themselves for perpetuating this harmful and outdated behavior.”

But the Bronx Zoo isn’t taking any of this criticism lying down. In a statement released on their website, the zoo said: “We love all our animals, including Pippi, and we do everything we can to make sure they are happy and healthy. We named her Pippi because it’s a fun and playful name that suits her personality. Plus, who doesn’t love a good children’s book?”

While some people may take issue with Pippi’s name, there is no denying that she is an adorable addition to the Bronx Zoo. At only a few weeks old, she’s already towering over her parents and siblings, and is sure to be a crowd favorite for years to come.

But being a baby giraffe isn’t all fun and games. Pippi will now have to endure countless hours of visitors coming to see her, face the constant stares of passersby and the cameras flashing as everyone tries to capture that perfect Instagram moment. Not to mention the paparazzi who are surely already lining up outside the gate, eager to get the first exclusive photo of the newest giraffe sensation.

All in all, it’s been a wild ride for Pippi and the Bronx Zoo. But if there’s one thing we know for sure, it’s that she’s going to be a star. Whether she likes it or not. Congratulations on your new giraffe, Bronx Zoo!
