Elderly Man Proves Age is Just a Number by Hiking Grand Canyon Rim-to-Rim
In a shocking display of stubbornness and disregard for his physical limitations, a 92-year-old man successfully hiked the Grand Canyon rim-to-rim.
The man, whose name has not been released (probably because he doesn’t want anyone to know how crazy he is), started his journey early in the morning and completed it before sundown.
According to eyewitnesses (who were probably too afraid to tell him to stop), the elderly man showed no signs of fatigue or exhaustion throughout the entire hike. He even stopped to take pictures and admire the scenery, as if he wasn’t in any hurry to finish.
When asked why he decided to undertake such a grueling task at his age, the man reportedly said, “I just wanted to prove that I could still do it. Plus, my doctor said I needed more exercise.”
Yes, because nothing screams “safe and sensible” like risking your life for a fitness goal.
Medical professionals were quick to criticize the man’s decision, calling it “reckless” and “foolhardy.” They warned that people in their 90s are much more susceptible to heat stroke and other heat-related illnesses, and that the rugged terrain of the Grand Canyon only adds to the danger.
But the man wouldn’t hear any of it. He was determined to cross this one off of his bucket list, even if it meant putting himself in harm’s way.
And why should he listen to doctors and experts, anyway? They just spent years studying medicine and human anatomy. What do they know?
In all seriousness, though, we have to give credit where credit is due. It’s not every day that someone in their 90s decides to conquer one of the most challenging hikes in the world. It takes a special kind of stubbornness to even attempt it.
But we also have to acknowledge that this man was incredibly lucky to make it through the hike unscathed. Not everyone who attempts this hike comes out alive.
Of course, the man seems unfazed by the danger he put himself in. He’s just happy to have completed the hike and proven to himself (and everyone else) that he’s still got it.
We can only hope that other people in their 90s don’t take the man’s example as a challenge to do something equally reckless. Just because he got lucky doesn’t mean everyone will be so fortunate.
