Hot Off The Press: Man Creates Spice That Will Melt Your Face Off
A man from New Jersey has not only broken the record for the world’s hottest pepper but has also achieved the impressive feat of creating a spice that can probably melt your face off; unfortunately though no one can confirm this as all his test subjects have been left unable to communicate or express pain in any form.
Pepper enthusiasts are getting all hot and bothered over this latest development. Ed Currie, the grower behind previously known world’s hottest pepper ‘The Carolina Reaper’ have been dethroned, after unveiling his latest insanity-inducing creation ‘Pepper X’. Currie seems to be channeling his inner mad scientist by adding fire to the world’s spiciest spices, leaving many to wonder; where will it all end?
The ‘Pepper X’ which is said to be 3.18 million heat units, hot enough to make a grown man weep, is turning the world of food on its head, and our mouths into a blazing furnace. Scientists and medical professionals have voiced their concerns saying that such a high concentration of heat in food can be incredibly dangerous for human life. However, Currie remains unapologetic. “I’m just a guy in a trailer trying to make things grow like a crazy scientist,” he said in an interview with the Wall Street Journal.
‘Pepper X’ not only contains capsaicin, the chemical responsible for spiciness but also ‘Dragon’s Breath Chilli’s’ and ‘Chocolate 7-Pots’ to create the ultimate flavour explosion that will leave even the most seasoned spice eater wiping their brow.
The infamy of the ‘Pepper X’ is spreading fast and wide. Food challenges, cook-offs and hot sauce competitions have all jumped on the ‘Pepper X’ bandwagon. People are putting their health at risk by participating in these competitions, all in an attempt to bask in the glory of being able to withstand unimaginable heat in their mouths.
Of course, with all the hype comes the naysayers. Critics have been quick to point out that creating increasingly spicy foods makes no sense. “Why would anyone want to eat something so hot that it has the potential to leave them bedridden for weeks on end?” questioned Angela Robertson, a food critic for The Guardian.
However, Currie remains undeterred and has already teased his next creation, which he claims will be even hotter than the “Pepper X”.
For now, the future is uncertain, and all one can do is try to avoid the tantalizing allure of these spicy creations, unless of course, you’re looking to add some heat to your taste buds and potentially set your mouth on fire. Remember if you do embark on the journey of eating the ‘Pepper X’ or any insanely hot food, keep some milk and bread close by to soak up the pain.
